You're alone, you want to die, your body is shaking, you might even be sweating and vomiting. The idea of taking a bath or even eating is agonizing because it's so much easier to just stay with your neck at a 120 degree angle to your chest and your spine bent into scoliosis in bed, than it is to get up to retrieve basic necessities.Life is truly tough when your health isn't on your side, but here's how you pull through while you have assignments stacking up.
1. Use Your Friends/ Know Your Resources
Your friends are your closest allies against your disease. If you don't have sickness must-haves already, let your friends know in advance if they can pick something up for you even if it's just a tea or some soup.
2. Try to Go to Class
At least, this is what you should have been doing when you were healthy. Now that you're sick, stay in touch with classmates to get the notes. Your sickness is already kicking your butt, but it doesn't have to kill your GPA.
3. Have Someone Check Up on You
Again, your friends or roommates are important here. Ask someone to text you in the morning and to expect a response from you if you went to bed with a fever all alone in your dorm or house.
4. Be Sure You're Still Productive
Along the lines of avoiding exhausting yourself, put your assignments or books in your bed and read or work until you fall asleep, then wake up and repeat.
5. Eat the Right Foods
Crackers or pretzels help with nausea. Yogurt and scrambled eggs for a sore throat. Bananas, avocado, and salmon for muscle aches. Water for a headache, sorry.
6. Drink the Right Liquids
Hot decaffeinated tea, soups, and water (with lemon) are all safe options to keep you hydrated, while you want to avoid caffeine, sports drinks, and alcohol because they either work in the opposite way or are packed with unhealthy sugar.
7. Don't Put on Pants
We already know this is a given. You're sick, no pants for you, but a baggy shirt and leggings are the way to go if you can't bear to wear pajamas all day.
8. Get Plenty of Sleep
I wasn't kidding about the sleeping. Do it as much as you can to help your body get better, faster.
10. Keep in Touch with the Outside World
Everything is awful and it feels like being healthy was just an illusion. All the same, you need to keep your professors and project members informed on your status and try to work remotely if you can. (You should all be using Google Docs regardless!)
11. Monitor Your Drugs
Don't overdose on Advil, Tylenol or any other medication you may be on that comes from over-the-counter, they all need at least thirty minutes to kick in so don't pop in one more to make it work faster. Make it easier on your weakened body
