An Open Letter To The Man Who Will Marry My Sister

To The Man Who Will Marry My Little Sister:

First off, I’d like to say congratulations. If she’s marrying you, you must be incredibly special. She has experienced plenty of heartbreak over the years, but she never gave up looking for Mr. Right. And now, here you are. Growing up, she constantly felt like she wasn’t worthy of love. I’m not sure why she ever thought that, or what it really means to be “unworthy” of love. But let me tell you: if anyone deserves love, it is my little sister. She sees nothing but the best in people, even though that can be frustrating sometimes. She forgives easily, feels emotions very deeply, and has the ability to empathize with everyone. It’s amazing, really.

It may be a cliché, but this girl lights up every room she walks into. I’m sure you’ve noticed that she has the most confident and contagious smile; anyone who knows her would agree. She has big dreams and she wants to see the entire world. She went to Europe once, when she was in high school, and it really changed her life. You'll have to take her back there, and to Australia, and probably South America. Besides taking her to other countries, you'll have to take her to Friendly's and for long drives with the windows down every once in awhile, too.

Sometimes she’ll want to eat pizza every night of the week, or maybe she’ll ask for just a big bowl of mashed potatoes for dinner. I’ll warn you: don’t even try buying store brand cereal. She won’t eat it. “Fruit Rings” are not the same as “Froot Loops,” trust me. She’ll also say that she’d rather be outside and active than lazy, and that’s true. But this girl binge watches shows on Netflix like no one I’ve ever met before; don’t complain or give her a hard time, just suck it up and cuddle her. If she's sad, sit down with her and make her watch "Just Go With It" - it's a cheesy Adam Sandler movie, you'll probably like it, too. Mint chocolate chip ice cream will help as well. You're welcome.

She may frequently ask you to take her to a Red Sox game, but once you go, she'll probably ask if you guys can leave early. What can I say? She's a free spirit, and she can't sit still for long. Also, don't get annoyed when she wakes up early to go for a seven mile run, because she'll do it anyway. She likes flannels, Patagonia, and dresses with sleeves, in case you're ever wondering what to get her for Christmas. Speaking of the holidays, you'll have to be ready to spend lots of time with our family. We're a crazy bunch, but I know that everyone will accept you with open arms.

You should know that you are going to marry my best friend. I will need you to support her, encourage her, and make her laugh. She may be stubborn at times, but that's a good thing; she stands up for what she believes in. She is adventurous, beautiful, and extremely smart. She's a strong runner, a talented artist, and one of the most amazing people I know. You're a lucky man, treat her well.

Sincerely,

Her Big Sister.

On the Upper East Side, Blair Waldorf is an icon. She's what every girl aspires to be. She's beautiful, confident, and can handle any obstacle that life throws at her. Sure, she may just be a television character. But for me, she's a role model and theres a lot that can be learned from Queen B.

We Heart It

Over the past decade, television has undergone a very crucial transition: the incorporation of female lead characters. Since it's a known fact that girls actually do run the world (Beyonce said so herself), it's time for the leading ladies of the small screen to get some credit. Without these characters, women would still be sitting in the background of our favorite shows. These women are not only trailblazers for female empowerment, but role models for women worldwide. With that, here are 15 of the smartest, sassiest ladies gracing our screens that remind us that women do, indeed, rule:
