I know I'm not the only one who has seen the video made my Buzzfeed where the guys are trying on women's leggings, right? (link is at the bottom, ENJOY). In the video, multiple guys try on different styles of leggings and they are asked for their thoughts about trying them on, wearing them and how they feel. The video proceeds with the guys giving their opinions about trying on the leggings. One of the guys said that they heard leggings were comfortable and warm, while another stated that he's scared that wearing leggings would become a habit because he's got a booty he'd like to show off (from what he hears, he is very bootylicious). The guys seemed willing and excited to try them out while making this video. How many guys do you know would agree to this? That's right, very few, if any (props to you guys)
As they were putting on the leggings, the guys were saying things like the leggings felt "like a freaking glove."
Jokes were made about superheroes wearing the leggings (my favorite one was the joke about Spiderman). The guy said that he was pretty sure that Spiderman was not wearing the leggings to fight crime, but wearing them because they were comfortable. A guy made a comment that he wished it was socially acceptable for guys to wear leggings while another stated that if you're confident enough that you should go for it.
Finally, the boys got to see what leggings are all about and exactly why a lot of girls absolutely love wearing them. So, maybe you are wondering where am I going with all of this? My thoughts during this video, besides me laughing at the guys, why isn't it socially acceptable and why did leggings automatically become an unisex clothing item? Yes, leggings are tight and many girls wear them but why automatically label something and use stereotypes for people who just want to express themselves and be fabulous!
Our generation uses labels with many things such as what kind of clothes someone wears, what accessories they have on, their haircuts, and so-on. Not only do we label things and people, but we stereotype within .5 seconds of meeting them by what they are wearing or how they act. Worry about you and do ONLY you. Let them be themselves. If a guy wants to wear leggings, loves them and rocks them, then let him go for it (he may can rock them better than you). This does not go just for things like leggings, but it goes for anything someone chooses to wear or do. Laugh it off, if you need to, and just carry on. DO YOU! As long as you are happy with what you are wearing and how you live your life, then, I say go ahead and rock it!
