This weekend the New York Post reported that a man sued Starbucks a coffee franchise for 5 million dollars. The cause? Apparently Starbucks had been putting too much ice in his coffee thus, not giving him the proper amount he had paid for.
A venti at Starbucks contains 24 oz, but with ice in the cup the man claims he was getting about 14 oz.
Yes, a man is suing for five million dollars over a cup of Coffee.
We as Americans tend to love money. It gives us power, freedom, and it can buy us shiny things. Allot of us probably think that our biggest problems could be solved by money. Odds are, if you are reading this, you're one of the few million students who will be in debt after college. Money here, would be helpful. Maybe, you need more space and a bigger house would be nice. Maybe your car brakes down everywhere you go, and a new one would really help out. Maybe, someone in your family was sick and money is necessary to cover all those medical bills. My point is money is necessary and, in allot of cases it is attractive.
But, oh, how money has ruined the human heart today.
What happened to loving on people? What happened to caring that this lawsuit probably lost some coffee barista their job? What happened to having integrity being something of importance?
When one dies they leave behind a legacy. My hope for you is that this legacy you leave behind is not not a legacy that would give up character in exchange for money. Keep your integrity near and dear to your heart. When you see someone left their wallet, don't take it. Turn it in. When you have an opportunity to seek revenge, like filing suit on a major company, choose forgiveness. Always remember, you can never put a price on good character.
Odds are, you are not the type of person who would even think to sue Starbucks over a silly cup of coffee but, maybe you have been charged for two drinks, gotten three and not said anything about it. My point is, don't let money consume you, or your heart. Be different, be loving, and be the kind of person this world so desperately needs.
