With recent sightings of Malia Obama at Lollapalooza in Chicago this weekend the internet has exploded with photos of her and her friends enjoying the festival. If Pokemon Go was getting on your nerves just wait until you see people by the dozens looking for Malia with their Snapchats on standby. With a music festival of more than 100 acts you'd think people could give her a weekend to enjoy herself and be a regular girl. Why is it that we can't just allow a normal girl who just so happens to have a dad with a cool job to just be one of us for a while? With all of the crowds following her and hunting her upon finding out she's attending, she might as well be an act and get stage time.
Coming back to her hometown for a festival itself is a pretty great trip, but I think Malia would appreciate being able to go without her secret service bodyguards keeping an eye out. Props to Lia for being a part of the crowd and at our level instead of staying backstage the whole weekend. She could've added a bigger security crew, or put on a really elaborate disguise but she made a bold decision to try to be a normal kid for a while. That can be pretty hard when your dad's not a mailman, office worker, or teacher, but the guy giving speeches on national TV and leading the country.
It definitely has to be an agitating experience to be at a social event and seen through some eyes only as the POTUS' daughter, but kudos to Malia for continuing to enjoy herself despite all of the off guard pics and Snapchat hunters skimming through crowds trying to find her for the sake of a few retweets. It'll take more than a little paparazzi while watching Mac Miller and The 1975 set to ruin her weekend.
