Often times in the new year people make definitive fitness goals that dissipate by the end of the year. For example, losing "x" amount of weight or going to the gym "x" amount of times each week although those are good goals I encourage those who have fitness goals to work on lifestyle changes. Focus on changing bad habits that you may have in order to achieve that goals weight or whatever it may be, so when you look back on the year you can see how you've hit that "x" amount of weight loss but you're also keeping it off and living overall healthier without it seeming challenging.
Here are a few tips to help make wellness work for you this year:
Find Support:
This is important and should be the first thing on your list! It's often hard to make changes when you go about things alone; we need support and guidance from other or we will never grow. I encourage you to look for Instagram pages, Facebook groups, a friend, a gym buddy, just find anyone or anything you know that will keep you accountable and help grow you throughout your journey!
Always Adjust Goals:
This is something I always ALWAYS do. I like to write out certain things I'd like to accomplish three months prior and as the month proceeds change and adjust accordingly. If I need to move something to the next month I will. This way I'm not discouraged if I didn't meet it but I'm challenged to continue. I also prioritize the most important things first so they aren't hanging over my head. This helps me stay accountable for all aspects of my life. If you're making specific fitness goals once you meet one, however, make a new one, always be focusing on moving forward in overall growth.
Change You're Mindset:
I encourage you to keep an open mind especially if you're just starting out in the fitness world. Try different classes you haven't before, change your "go to" workouts, follow a new "fitspo" on Instagram, don't be afraid to change up your diet, or break an old habit! Things won't change your lifestyle if you're not open to new and innovative processes. If you're used to the same old things try asking yourself; "is my typical routine still working?" "what can I do to improve it?" this will allow you to avoid plateaus and always keep you excited about your lifestyle change.
Seek help/advice:
If you just feel utterly lost or are looking for a different kind of support don't be afraid to find some help! We have licensed dietitians and personal trainers for a reason! Often times you can easily access someone from online or even your gym! Lots of gyms are starting to implement nutritionist alongside personal training. Don't be afraid to even just ask questions from them even if you're not paying for it, any trainer in the gym is happy to show you an exercise or answer any question you may have!
Educate Yourself:
With today's technology we have access to so many things so don't hesitate to search up anything! Just be mindful of where the content comes from. My go-to places are the bodybuilding websites with loads of information! Pinterest is also a great place for healthy food ideas and even workouts. Instagram is booming with "fitspos " who post daily workouts all the time with freedom to access or just screenshot them! It can be easier than you think to implement a healthy lifestyle it doesn't need to be complicated and perfectly laid out. Find things that work for you and continue to take steps every day that change your lifestyle to better yourself.
By the end of this year, I hope you look back and see how far you've come not because you hit a hard number but by the fact you can easily live each day feeling well and healthy without putting too much thought into it!
