Life is busy. Balancing school, work, social events, community service, and family is always a constant battle, never seemed to be won. We complain there is not enough time in the day, that our schedules are hectic, and that the breakout on our face is from the stress of midterms.
School is number one as a student, your job takes president in the real world, and your family always comes before anything else. With all of this in mind, where is the "I" statement, the sentence saying "I come first". It's hard to think this way with so much going on in your life. But in order to get all of the assignments, projects at work done, and staying sane with your family, 'me time' is vital.
Setting aside time for yourself is how we get by, how we balance the stress and get out of the library. DO your work, do what needs to be done, I'm not saying stop doing what it is in front of you, but we all need time set aside time, to do what we enjoy. Whether that be going out for a night of drinking with friends, going to see a movie, or sitting in bed watching Netflix for so long it asks you if you're still watching, just do it.
Majors can be restricting, pre-med, chemistry, physics and everything in between, don't put 'me time' in their syllabus. But maybe we can actually do what we say we will and exercise our time management skills so we do have some time to relax every day.
My sister is in Physician Assistant school. She takes what seems to be 290,909,456 credit hours a semester and never has time to breathe. Going to Florida State University nightlife is a staple. We live very different lives. But nothing makes me more excited when during our daily conversations I hear she is going out. It doesn't happen often, but when it does the joy in her voice, the smile in her pictures, and the release of stress, is all the too real.
No matter how hectic her schedule is and how many bones, and arteries she has to learn the night before she makes it out every few weeks, for fun, to release stress, to not lose her mind.
Do your work, but also remember yourself. Reward is key, it makes studying more enjoyable, your heart rate decrease from all of the stress, and make you a happier person overall. Balance is key, you deserve it.
Just some food for thought.
