Valentine's Day is right around the corner, and we have all been where some of you are right now.

Everyone's been solo for at least a few Valentine's Days in the past. Some people are not the least bit bothered by it, while others feel particularly alienated for their singleness. Singles handle Valentine's Day in many different ways from celebrating an anti-Valentine's Day with friends to spending the day in bed with soaps and chocolate that you bought for yourself. You should definitely spend the fourteenth in whatever way makes you happiest, but I hope none of you find yourself cursing this holiday.

I can definitely recall a few Valentine's Days that I spent being just a little bitter about not having anyone to celebrate with--- except I did have someone. Without fail, my mom and dad always bought balloons and candy for my brother and I. My brother always made me a card or coupons for hugs and kisses. Not a single Valentine's has gone by that I was not loved dearly. We all are.

My town, like many, throws dances every year around Valentine's Day for fathers and daughters, and for mothers and sons. These sweet dances are just one way to celebrate the love we feel for those closest to us. It's one of my favorite things about Valentine's Day; it's a time for us to take special care to remember those that we love and cherish in our lives. That means that there is something to appreciate about this holiday even if you don't have a significant other to celebrate with. Buy your parents a card or take your siblings out to eat at their favorite restaurant. Show the people you care about that you love them by telling them, "I want to spend this Valentine's Day with you!"

I know it can be a sucky feeling not getting flowers and a ridiculously large teddy bear on this day, but hang in there and find your silver lining. Make it a fun day full of love and laughter, and don't give another thought to cursing a holiday that does not have to be about you and a significant other.

Let's make this Valentine's Day about love in all its beautiful shapes and sizes.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. You feel like you will have never-ending classwork to catch up on if you miss class, so you end up going sick and then it just takes longer to get better. Being sick in college is really tough and definitely not a fun experience. Here are the 15 stages that everyone ends up going through when they are sick at college.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
