Its probably the last thing many of us want to think about. On Tuesday, November 8, we will vote for our next President of the United States, and the options are less than satisfying. For the perhaps the first time in our nation's history, we have to make a choice between two people with more controversy around them than can even be listed here. USA Today confirmed that they would not be endorsing Donald Trump, but when asked if that meant they would be endorsing Hillary Clinton, they simply replied "No"... and that is perhaps the feeling of many in the United States. Many are tempted not to even vote.
While it may seem tempting to just sleep in on election day, there are a couple of things you may want to consider. First, it is Constitutionally your right to vote. By voting, you have a voice. If you don't vote, you are not using that voice. A vote is never wasted. But by not voting, you are saying that you don't really care about that important right. You are saying that you don't care who is elected.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt once said "Nobody will ever deprive the American people of the right to vote except the American people themselves and the only way they could do this is by not voting." It sounds cliche, but it is our right and our duty to vote.
Second is the fact that we should care. Simply said, we should attention to what is happening. Not only will it effect your life, but it will effect your children's lives as well. The United States, as well as the rest of the world, is changing. No President of the United States can change that. But it is our right as Americans to make ourselves heard. Every soldier that ever died in the defense of this country died for us to have that right.
Now comes the tough question: who do I vote for? It is definitely not an easy thought, either. One candidate can't seem to keep track of her emails, and the other just says whatever is on his mind. There is always third party, and then write in. Consider it like taking medicine; you don't know if it will work and its going to be terrible. Pick a candidate, research their views and platform, and vote.
It is my opinion, however, that who ever gets elected, God is in control. I will vote on election day, but I'll do so knowing that whoever is elected is not ultimately appointed by my ballot. Romans 13:1 says "Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God." God has a reason and a plan for whoever is elected.
Vote on election, but do so knowing that God is in control.
