College is right around the corner, and the stresses and worries are starting to come in. It doesn’t help that your professors are already emailing you their plans, schedules, and syllabi. You are wondering, "didn’t summer just start?" and "I don’t want to think about school." Here are some ways you can spend your last few weeks of summer in Buffalo, having fun and making memories, before getting back to the “back to school” mode.

1. Go to a Concert

There are so many concerts at the end of August to enjoy, whether it’s concerts at Darien Lake, First Niagara Center, or the free ones at Canalside, there is still time for you to experience a summer dose of music.

2. Go to the Drive-In

No summer is completely finished without going to the Drive-In. At night, when the August heat cools down is the perfect time to cuddle up with your friends and family to watch two movies in one night. Feel free to bring your own snacks and drinks in your car to save money.

3. Watch the Olympics

Root for the USA in all different sports. It might even be fun to have a viewing party to watch your favorite event. Enjoy the summer Olympics because it only happens every four years.

4. Visit Canalside

The past years have really allowed for Canalside to develop so go see it. There is always different activities going on. Go during the day or go at night and visit the different places to eat or watch the sunset. There is plenty to do with a wonderful back drop.

5. Have a bonfire

A bonfire is a fun way to get together with all your friends before everyone starts heading back to college. Make s’mores, play games, and tell stories, while enjoying the summer night and looking at all the stars is called for a perfect night.

6. Go walking

Go walk through Delaware Park, Birchfield Park, Chestnut Ridge before the weather quickly changes from sun and warmth to snow and cold. Plus park walks are free so this helps you start to save up for all those college costs like books and supplies…

7. Go to the Erie County Fair

Go experience carnival rides and games, food vendors, different shows and events. There are plenty of vendors for you to buy amazing products. There are always different promotions going on to save you money when getting into the fair so pay attention to those special dates and times.

8. Go to a game

Whether it’s a preseason Bills game or the last couple of Bisons Games, sporting events are so fun in the summer time. You don’t have to worry about shivering in your seat like you would in a December football game. All you need is a hat and some sunglasses and you are set.

9. Have Fun

Maybe you don’t like any of these ideas, so come up with your own fun; go swimming, go out to eat and sit on the patio, start a pick-up game with some friends, just enjoy these final weeks of summer.

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
