You know that friend who rocks your world? Who cheers you up when you're down? Who holds your hand during the hardest decisions of life? The friend who gets you. The one who is constantly checking on you. Who it hurts to be away from too long because ya'll always have the best of times. You rush to them after break because you have to tell them the newest happenings of life. They celebrate with you. They believe big things for you. They are for you and you are for them. I am so thankful for a God who lets us have such sweet, sweet, life-giving friendships. But I am more thankful for a God who wants to be that friend.
Sometimes I forget the sweetness of a relationship with Jesus. As much as I wish that wasn't the truth, I put him in this religious box of church and duties and the "big ideas." We worship on Sundays. We pray in crisis. We sing the songs real loud, we read our bibles.. that is all so great. Yet, when the little things of life trip us up, we tend to leave Jesus out of it. What about the every day melt downs? What about the small celebrations? In the midst of this life, Jesus wants to be our bestest of friend. How cool is that? That the Savior of the world wants to walk out this life with me, even though its messy. Even when it gets kinda mixed up. Through the good and through the not so hot. He cares when I am having a less than perfect day. When we have those fat days, he is right there. It matters to him when I cry my eyes out over some silly boy. He celebrates a good test score with me. He is for me. He wants me to cry to him. He wants me to not be able to wait to tell him all about all the crazy, awesome stuff that is going on. He cares what's up. He created us in all our unique quirks. He knows whats to happen. What's gonna make us laugh and what's gonna make us cry.
There are a million awesome things about Jesus, but one of my favorites is his special attention to the small things with the way he had such sincere friendships with his disciples. He was so intentional with everything he did even when to us it looked like he was messing around. He was walking out a story none of us could of done better. The disciples loced him and he loved them. They were in it together. Jesus is begging to be your dearest friend. When I remember Jesus is a holy God who I call friend, my fat days feel a bit less fat. My tears seem worth it. The stress of life seems less overwhelming. And the celebrations are a lot more loud. Jesus is good. He is the best friend. He is the best encourager. He is the best listener. He is for you, 100%.
