Making 2017 Your Year

"Wanting can be done sitting on the couch with a bong in your hand and a travel magazine in your lap. Deciding means jumping in all the way, doing whatever it takes, and going after your dreams with the tenacity of a dateless cheerleader a week before prom night."

Recently, I picked up Jen Cincero's book, You're a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life, as a Christmas gift and ended up reading it myself. The book came into my sights at the perfect time with the new year and my twentieth birthday right around the corner. I specifically resonated with these quotes that I think can serve as new year's resolutions for everyone wanting to make 2017 their year:

"Wanting can be done sitting on the couch with a bong in your hand and a travel magazine in your lap. Deciding means jumping in all the way, doing whatever it takes, and going after your dreams with the tenacity of a dateless cheerleader a week before prom night."

This year, let's stop longing for those things that make us happy, stop doubting ourselves and do what it takes to get where we want.

"Watching someone else totally go for it can be incredibly upsetting to the person who's spent a lifetime building a solid case for why they themselves can't."

This year, let's lose the jealousy and get out of our own way to making our dreams a reality.

"It's just as easy to believe we're awesome as it is to believe we're giant sucking things."

This year, let's make self love a priority.

"You are responsible for what you say and do. You are not responsible for whether or not people freak out about it."

This year, let's forget about what other people might think of us and stay true to who we are.

"Our fantasies are our realities in an excuse-free world."

This year, let's ditch the excuses.

"You cut yourself off from the supply of awesomeness when you are not in a state of gratitude."

This year, let's be genuinely grateful.

"Holding on to resentment is like taking poison and waiting for your enemies to die."

This year, let's let go and forgive.

"Our greatest fears are our greatest waste of time."

This year, let's forget our fears.

"So often, we pretend we've made a decision, when what we've really done is signed up to try until it gets too uncomfortable."

This year, let's get outside of our comfort zones.
