Baking your face may sound ridiculous but it is what is trending in the makeup world. Baking your face requires you to have a brush or powder puff and a translucent powder. The purpose behind a translucent powder is to control the oily T-zone and to prevent creasing under the eyes. But what product works best? The high-end powder or the drugstore powder?
When I first began baking my face I would use the lightest powder to brighten up my under eyes, but I found that this just created an outrageous white cast when I was under flash photography. I turned to the nearest drugstore translucent powder, called Coty Airspun and began to bake "properly". Translucent powder made it possible for me to apply powder all over my face, while still brightening my under eyes, controlling creasing, and minimizing oil. Now, what makes this makeup product so translucent? Well compared to L'Oreal's True Match Super Blendable Powder there are different colors that vary with skin color, while a translucent powder caters to all skin tones. That is the beauty of a translucent powder, because if you are a makeup artist, you can easily invest in a 2.3 oz Coty Airspun and use it on all your clients.
If you are a makeup lover, and you should be because then why would this article serve you any purpose...then you've wondered if a high end translucent powder is well worth more than a drugstore powder. Beautybymadisonx3 is here with an answer because she powdered half of her face with one drugstore product and the other with a high end product!
Coty Airspun contains: Talc, Zinc Oxide, Zinc Stearate, Magnesium Carbonate, Fragrance, Mineral Oil, Lanolin, Cetyl Alcohol, Imidazolidinyl Urea, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, May Contain: Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides, D&C Red 30 Lake, D&C Yellow 5 Zirconium Lake (makeupalley.com)
Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder contains: Talc, Magnesium Myristate, Nylon-12, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, EthylhexylPalmitate, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Methylparaben, Lauroyl Lysine, Propylparaben, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Butylparaben, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Tocopherol, Methicone. All those ingredients look like absolute gibberish I know, but one of these products definitely works better than the other one.
As we begin to compare the two, we see that the Coty Airspun comes in a 2.3 oz jar for $8-9, while the Laura Mercier is available in 1.0 oz for $38 and a sample size of 0.33 oz for $23. You makeup lovers may start to invest in Airspun because of how cheap it is and the amount of product you receive with every purchase. Don't be fooled.
The Coty Airspun has this heavenly smell, this large puff that is soft and applicable to the face, and it's a perfect fit for the under eyes. However an hour or two passes by and your under eyes begin to fill your natural wrinkles, making them more prominent than ever! The reason I feel the powder settles into the skin this way is because it is filled with Mineral Oil. From experience, I know that mineral oil brings out my pores and makes my skin oily. A lot of products contain mineral oil and it is something to stay away from. According to drfranklipman.com, mineral oil is a "physical barrier that lays on top of your skin and prevents moisture loss." It is also known as one of the leading agents to breakouts.
On the other hand, we have the higher end product called the Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder, that has no smell, carries a small puff that fits nicely under the eyes, and lasts for about 5 hours until you have to blot. I immediately saw the difference when I applied this powder on the left side of my face because my under eye was brighter, smoother, and lighter. The small wrinkles under my eyes did not begin to fold in until a 5 hour mark. My reason behind this is because it has Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil. Soybean Oil contains Vitamin E which makes it an effective anti- aging and wrinkle oil that is beneficial to your skin.
Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder definitely won my heart in the "powder war". Although it ranges a little bit more than my wallet can afford, it is well worth the investment because it is better for your skin. My mother always told me " lo que compras barato te sale caro." In other words, "whatever you buy cheap, comes out expensive."
With any makeup purchase ladies, it is better to go by quality over quantity.
