7 Reasons Why I Don't Wear Makeup

People are often shocked when they find out that I, a female college sophomore, do not wear makeup, nor do I want to, it’s not that I am allergic, or that wearing makeup is ‘against my religion’ but I still have never has a desire to wear makeup. So I thought I would throw a little list together describing why I don’t wear makeup… spoiler alert; the answer is not ‘I don’t know’.

1. Not Wearing Makeup Saves Time

Let’s be real: college students have a lack of time. I am no exception; from early morning classes, to work study, to late night meetings and everything in between I barely have time to sit down and take a break, let alone get up to put on makeup. While I had more time in High School, I still valued a few things over putting makeup on in the morning: sleep and food. The way I see it, the necessities of life are more important than looking like a magazine cover.

2. Not Wearing Makeup Saves Money

Another thing college students (and everyone is seems) lack is money. I for one would rather spend my money on something other than makeup, especially since I would rather be sleeping or eating than putting on makeup. (Please note that I would love to make a diagram about how much money you could be saving by switching to the no makeup life but I don’t even know what goes into a face of makeup so I don’t know where to start.

3. I Don’t Even Know Where to Start

So this is a bit of a lame reason, but I have no idea where to start with makeup. I can figure out some aspects of makeup. Eye shadow is colours for your eye lids, lip stick is for your lips, that thing that looks like an ancient torture device curls your eyelashes, but I don’t know the logical steps to put makeup on, or application techniques or any of that, and honestly, I don’t really care.

4. I Feel Like Myself

Let me start this off by saying that everyone has insecurities. We have all heard this a million and one times, just be you, because everyone feels insecure at times blah blah blah. But this is the way I see it; if I were to get used to seeing myself with a face full of makeup I would be even less secure when I took that makeup off. I would feel incomplete when I am without makeup and I don’t want to get used to seeing a face in the mirror that isn’t my own. Some people might suggest only wearing a little makeup, but a little and a little becomes a lot.

5. I Don’t Feel the Need to Impress Anyone

So this is a little bit of a fib, but only a little bit. I would love to be impressive to people. However if that impression were to be made because I am wearing a mask of makeup, I would rather not accept. I would rather be remembered and recognized as myself rather than a pound of eye shadow and lip-gloss.

6. I Don’t Need Makeup (and Neither do You!)

I am not just saying this to make my point seem noble, this is the truth, and by truth I mean my opinion. You look more beautiful without makeup. You look more real, more honest, and more alive.

7. I HATE Society's Obsession with Makeup.

I hear so much about building up self esteem and how beautiful people are naturally. Yet I feel bombarded with tutorials, advertisements, and even subtle hints to makeup wearing no matter where I go. I don't think that anyone should feel the need to wear makeup to feel beautiful, and sometimes society says the same, however sometimes the spokesperson for a 'makeup-less life' is covered with powders, liners, and gloss.

Without makeup you look more like yourself and less like a doll, and I for one think dolls look really creepy. Not that you look creepy, but you look beautiful without makeup, so why wear it?

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.
