Today, I was sitting with some friends and one of my guy friends turned to me and said, “makeup is cool but I prefer a girl with natural makeup.” Being confused, I asked him to further explain his idea of “natural makeup” and he immediately said “Kim Kardashian."
I thought this was an interesting choice, because if you are familiar with makeup, you know the Kardashians really made contouring a common thing (even though drag queens have been doing it since the dawn of time).
So here’s the thing about makeup: it’s expression. There’s no wrong way to do makeup. If you’re confident in how you do your makeup, then you’re using it correctly.
There's a lot of memes that criticize a person's choice to wear makeup.
Such as:
But here's the bottom line: you don't owe anyone any sort of look. If you want to wear intense makeup, go for it. Makeup washes off. Go crazy - experiment. You are your own canvas, so create art.
Makeup is about self-expression and shouldn't be shamed, but it often is. There's nothing wrong in liking a "natural" look over a "dramatic" look. What is wrong is shaming someone for the makeup they choose to wear.
To me, makeup is self-confidence that is applied right to the face. Some days, I rock a "no makeup" makeup look and other days I'm full coverage glam. There's no "wrong" amount of makeup. If you feel good, then that's all that matters.
