Make The Most Of Your Summer

How to make the most of your summer while its still here

WHAT TIME IS IT? SUMMER TIME! IT'S OUR VACATION!

It is already July which means summer break (or summer for all you working folks) is a third over. Whether you are in school and this is your longest break of the year, or you're working and you don't get a break, summer is still a favorite season to many. It's a time to kick back and relax. Enjoy the sun, the time away from school, and just the warm weather in general.

I'm sure there are some people who don't mind staying indoors no matter how nice it is outside, but most people don't want to waste their summer by being inside all of the time and not out in the beautiful sunshine. Summer is a great time to get things done, but it's also a great time to go on adventures, explore the world around you, and have fun. What are some things that you have always wanted to do but haven't gotten around to? Maybe they are something major like traveling to some exotic country, but you can't afford it or don't have the ability to make that happen. Or maybe it's something more simple like going on a walk through the woods or going somewhere you've never been. Whatever it is, find a way to do it or at least do something to get you closer to being able to do it in the future.

No one looks back on their life and says they wish they had worked more, but people do wish they had more time or determination to do things they have always wanted to do. Trying new things or going new places can be scary and intimidating, but that's part of the thrill. You never know what could happen. If your friends want to go out and do something, just do it. If there's something you want to do, just to say you've done it, then do it. Get out there and make lasting memories.

Recently I was making a graduation gift for a friend and decided to do a craft. I didn't realize how much fun it would be until I actually sat down and started doing it. It made me want to do more crafts and find other artsy things to do. It was an inside project, but I could have easily brought my supplies outside and did it. Finding new hobbies and fun ways to spend your time during the summer is a lot of fun and a good use of your time. Spend time with friends, go on walks or bike rides, go the beach or lake, do something spur of the moment. Spend your time wisely because summer only lasts so long.

Making a bucket list will also help you make sure you enjoy your summer to the fullest. Think of all the places you could go, the things you could see, or the things you could do that you would enjoy. Share it with your family or friends so they can help you check things off your list. Go to a fair, hang out with a friend in a totally new place, go to a concert. Just get out of your comfort zone and the cities you know so well. Be adventurous, be spontaneous, and have the best summer yet. Find ways to do things that are fun and will create memories, but won't break your bank.

Obviously there is nothing wrong with staying inside and doing nothing sometimes, but for me that gets old. Summer only comes around once a year, so may as well make the most of it while you can.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
