It's very easy for your room to turn into a giant pile of clothes that you practically need to swim through to get to your bed (if you can even see your bed), and it's even easier to just shut the door and forget the mess that you left behind. I am very guilty when it comes to this, but there is really no better feeling than coming home after a long day to a clean floor and a made bed. You don't need to have a picture perfect room, life gets busy, and sometimes cleaning becomes the last of our priorities, but here is a few tips on how you can create that perfect stress-free zone without having to keep it perfectly arranged all of the time.
Make your bed. If all else fails in the cleaning department, just MAKE YOUR BED. It will make such a difference.
Light candles. Find your favorite scents and let them burn.
Pillows, lots and lots of pillows. Comfort is key.
Put inspiration on your walls. If you have to tack it, tape it, or nail it, get it up. Waking up to a room full of motivation is the perfect way to start your day.
Get some plants (my personal favorite is a lucky bamboo). Especially in the winter, the days can get very long and you won't see any green for a few months. Add some into your decor!
Get creative with your lighting. Personally, I hate having the big overhead light on in my room—it's bright and unflattering. Get a few cute lamps and other light fixtures to create a calming glow from different areas of your room.
Make a "designated school/work zone." It could be a shelf in your closet or just the pile underneath your chair. Keep all of your school or work materials in one place so you aren't stressing out when you need to get to your 8 a.m. class or job.
It can get really hard to get your life together when your room isn't even together. Start here and see if it helps. It isn't logical to think that it's going to be clean 100% of the time. In fact, I'm writing this next to a pile of clothes right now, so don't worry if you feel like there's no hope.
