Many years ago, I accidentally discovered a great and very original author. Her name is Fannie Flagg. This wonderful writer was born and raised in the suburbs of Birmingham, Alabama. Her books are easy and fun. Amazingly colorful and yet very true, Fanny describes the daily life of the residents of Birmingham, Montgomery and other cities. It is impossible not to fall in love with her subtle sense of humor intertwined with wisdom and simplicity. I avidly read all of her books, which have been translated to Russian. I highly recommended this author to all my friends. Due to the fact that the books are translated much slower into other languages, some books I had to print from the Internet, because it was impossible to find them in print. Flagg's print masterpieces have passed from hand to hand. Anyone who borrows the books from me always asks me for another one. However, life is an amazing thing. One day I moved to Louisiana. Since I came here I've been watching the people, who are natives. It was very surprising for me to note that local customs, people's clothes, behavior and even the style of the buildings were the same as described in Fannie Flagg's books. It should be noted that this remarkable woman is not only a talented writer, but also is an American actress and comedian. She is best known as a semi-regular panelist on the 1973–1982 versions of the game show Match Game and for the 1987 novel "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe", which was adapted into the 1991 movie "Fried Green Tomatoes". She has moved to live in California, but her old house in the town of Irondale, Alabama is still there welcome waiting for the return of its mistress.
A special book for me is "Welcome to the World, Baby Girl!". This book is unusual for Flagg in that Dena Nordstrom, the story's lead character, is building a life in New York City while attempting to come to terms with her past in a small town.
Some time later Fanny released a new book "The All-Girl Filling Station's Last Reunion", it was published on November 5, 2013, and she came to Alabama to present a new book, and to meet with readers. Unfortunately, in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, I didn't even know about it. However, yesterday, when I passed my last exam of a very complicated summer semester in college, I clearly understand, that like the main cheracter, Dean Nordstrom, we are often wrong in our thinking, that we have absolutely no time for some silly dream. One day, Dean found time and opportunity to escape from the jaws of overwhelming busy New York City to visit her quiet hometown, where somebody always was waiting for her. After that parallel, I decided that I definitely need to see my favorite writer's hometown. Y'all can be a little jealous because tomorrow I'm going to Alabama to try the fried green tomatoes at the whistle stop cafe, and to discover what else is there!
