Moving can be a pain in the ass. You spend a few days packing up and the actual move out day is a full day of lifting back and forth. The day is so hectic that you are bound to sweat, misplace things and possibly be out of transportation if you do not plan accordingly. If you are a college student living in student housing, you too understand how hectic move out day can be. If you do not plan ahead, you also risk losing money due to added expenses. I personally moved at least once every year from one apartment complex to the next so I have a bit of credibility here. I will share some tips on preparing for a move out day and what to expect, especially for the college students moving out of apartment complexes.

First, you might want to contact a reliable friend who owns a pick-up truck or van. This is not always easy to do. Therefore you may have to rent a U-haul. If you choose this option, understand that U-hauls are almost never available for rent the day of. You must prepare weeks, even up to a month in advance especially if you want to have it at a common move out date.

Make sure you do not have outstanding balances with your leasing office. This can hinder your future endeavors if you plan on renting apartments again. Keep your keys to the house, gate, and mailbox together because if you lose them, that will be another added on fee that you do not want to pay when moving out. Other added on fees include things such as broken or damaged items in the apartment, dirty carpet, torn blinds and painted or marked walls. You must ensure a clean area before officially moving out.

Stay hydrated and bring as much help as possible. You may feel like the task is not hard but you can easily pass out due to the heat. Energy is being exerted when you continuously move things from place to place. You can also take the pressure off of your body with extra hands around. The time will pass by faster and you will get a lot more done. Do not forget to take breaks in between. Overworking yourself is never the way to go. Always plan ahead allocating enough time for yourself to complete the task in a smooth manner.

Use boxes and other bags that are easy to carry. Preparation is always the most important thing when moving. If you prepare your things and pack them well into bags and boxes, all that is left to do is move them into the loading truck. I have helped people move in the past and it took days because they moved everything without proper packing. Things were all over the place resulting in damage and lost goods. Otherwise, the move out process should be smooth sailing. By the way, do not forget to return the U-haul! That may be the most expensive mistake to possible make during move out day.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
