Different Is Good: Appreciate, Don't Hate

Let's learn to love one another regardless of the differences that set us apart.

52

With all that has been going on in the world, it's pretty easy for us to get frustrated. Day by day, it's becoming harder for us to see genuine forms of love between people of all sorts. Unfortunately, it's easier to notice the violence based on discrimination, abuse, terrorism, rape, and just pure hatred. Of course, these events sure do open our eyes and cause us to take actions to prevent any further forms of violence, but when are these actions going to take effect? When will the government realize it's too late? When are we going to start loving each other instead of putting each other down?

Sometimes it just boggles my mind when I think about how someone could possibly have the heart to hurt someone.

Hurting someone because they are different is just completely absurd.

I will never understand the intentions of someone that willingly goes out of their way to make others feel horrible about being themselves.

We are all put on Earth for a reason. We are all different and that's what makes us so special. This specialty is what contributes to the phenomenal amount of diversity in the world. The diversity of races, cultures, religions, genders, and ideas is what makes the world a remarkable place to live in. We get to thrive in an atmosphere where no one person is alike. It's an atmosphere where we can share our unique experiences and build upon them together as a community.

What is utterly disgusting is that it just takes one person...at least one person to tear a portion of the world apart. It just takes one person to commit a horrific crime that takes away many innocent lives. It's absolutely terrifying to think about. We shouldn't give these people any power. Their mind consists of so much hatred most likely because of they way they were raised.

That needs to be changed. Negative stereotypes of different people need to stop being encouraged and enforced. We should throw away those stereotypes all together. We need to start viewing everyone with a positive mentality and not come to direct assumptions based off of what someone told us earlier.

A lot of hatred has already occurred this year, but none of those events should cause us to give up on our faith in humanity. It's not too late to free some people's minds of the negative perceptions that they have about humanity. Let's start off with a fresh, new slate and reinforce the idea of spreading love and not hate.

A world full of encouraging one another regardless of race, culture, religion, ethnicity, and gender is a society where we all strive to live in. Let's embrace and learn to love everyone's differences.

Let's start and continue to love one another in order to make this world a safer and better place. Make hatred go extinct once and for all.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
