It’s that time of the year where the pumpkins, cornucopias, and leaf decorations are put away and the snowflakes, Christmas lights, and stockings come out. But what should be put into these stockings??

I LOVE thinking of gift ideas for people, especially for those I love. There is really nothing better than knowing you made a wonderfully unique gift just for that special someone. So here is a list of other things I’ve made as gifts in the past!

1: For my mommy I once made a photo collage for her birthday that included my dad, my brother, and me. I was taking a photography class at the time so I was able to use a decent camera from my high school, as well as my Photoshop skills. Like many of my craft ideas, I found this idea from Pinterest. All it took was some construction paper for the letters and hearts, a decent spot in our backyard, and patience when it came to my brother and father cooperating with me. My mom loved it!

2: For my dad I made one of the cheesiest and stupid things ever; this was back in my early stages of gift making. I won’t go into too much information, but nobody in my household growing up wanted to go to the bathroom after my dad had been in there, and there was a very good reason why. So, for his birthday, I got a plunger and a bag of obnoxious looking gems and glued them on. I made it as a sort of trophy for my dad; the “Smelliest Man" award if you will.

3: For my boyfriend I made one of the coolest gifts ever, and I am VERY proud of it. I made a comic book where he starred as the superhero. This all started from a little inside joke between the two of us, and I’m the kind of person who takes an inside joke and blows it up for the purpose of cheesy gifts. I did not create the artwork myself. I found an app called Fiverr where I posted my request for help with my project, and someone who was able to help me out responded and helped! It’s probably one of my favorite gifts I’ve made for someone.

So for this holiday season, when you find yourself needing ideas for some gifts, I suggest turning to Pinterest and/or maybe letting your imagination take over for a bit. Homemade gifts can be a lot of work but are definitely worth the smile on the person’s face when they open it and realize you put so much effort into making them happy.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
