Take The Time To Sit Down And Eat Your Meal, No Distractions Allowed

College is a busy time for everyone; you're on your own and trying to figure out your life. It's a chaotic mess.

There's all this talk about staying healthy in college - both physically and mentally. We talk about going to the gym, getting enough sleep and putting yourself first.

I agree with all of that, but there's one habit I try to put above everything.

I know it sounds weird, but I make sure I sit down and eat for at least one meal a day.

When I say sit down and eat, I mean sit down - at a table, on a chair, and eat with no distractions besides yourself or your friends.

No phone, no homework. Just you, your food, and the table.

I know it sounds like such a basic concept, but you wouldn't believe how many college students don't do this.

As the stress piles on, we tend to neglect one of our most basic human necessities.

Eating seems like such a hassle, a waste of time.

"Sure, I can take time to eat. My body needs food, but I have to study while I eat."

Why? Yeah, your body needs food, but your brain also needs a break from the constant studying and screen time. This is so important for your mental health and your mental health is just as important as your physical health.

And trust me, that ten minutes you spend studying while eating is not going to impact your grade on that exam.

Have a meal with your roommates - and talk to them, like face to face.

And if you're eating alone, that's okay.

Be alone, with yourself, your food, and your own thoughts.

I know it can be extremely uncomfortable at first, but it is so good for you.

College can be extremely stressful, you're not in a "normal" world.

But, for me "normalizing" it as much as possible has been a huge stress reliever.

Remembering to give my body it's basic needs and take a break has been essential.

I know you don't always have the time to sit down and eat every meal, try to do this at least once a day - it goes a long way.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
