It always seems that you are the "brains" of your family if you are majoring in biology, chemistry, dentistry, pre-law or any other "hard major." It seems that people naturally assume you are not smart if you are not majoring in one of these majors; however, I'm here to tell you, while people majoring in these areas of concentration are well indeed smart, so are people majoring elsewhere.
I am an education major, and my sister majored in biology with a minor in chemistry. I have always heard it said that my sister is smarter than me simply based on her major. While yes, my sister is extremely intelligent, so am I! We both graduated valedictorian of our high school. We both attend/attended well-respected universities. Our only intellectual difference simply comes from the fact that she loves biology and all that comes with it, and I love children and want to make a difference in their lives. It is not a matter of not being smart enough, it is simply a matter of what we find interesting, and what we want to do with our lives.
In college, every major is difficult! If it were not, then what would be the point of spending thousands of dollars on an education for something you can learn on your own. It is not about the money or the difficulty of the subject matter that we choose our majors. It is because we find it interesting and we know that with our particular major, regardless of what it is, we will contribute to this world in a very large and needed way!
So, for everyone who thinks some majors are easy and some are hard, I am here to tell you that every major is hard. What makes the difference in determining what is hard and difficult for one person to another simply comes with what we find interesting.
