I Decided To Be A Graphic Design Major And Believe It Was Definitely The Right Choice For Me

Common misconception about 'art majors'.

Ever since I got accepted to The University of West Georgia, I have been asked repeatedly what I am majoring in. I respond with Graphic Design, and I get one of two responses. I get either "Oh wow, I hope you can make some money with that" or "Good for you following your dreams".

There is just something about majoring in art that 'people' don't believe that you can make money at while doing. What everyone doesn't know is that graphic design is a different form of art. It is still considered fine arts as one would be getting a BFA (Bachelors of Fine Arts). Graphic design is something that is everywhere in the world and sometimes you don't even realize it. You have to have graphic design for t shirts, flyers, album covers, stickers, etc....

When I was a senior in high school I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. Someone then told me about an internship opportunity at a local t shirt company in my hometown, I applied and then found out I got it. Shortly after working there for a couple of months I figured out that graphic design was what I wanted to do with my life. The main graphic designer I was working under got a BFA in graphic design from UWG.

Where am I now?

I am currently an upcoming sophomore at The University of West Georgia planning on majoring in graphic design. I got on the Dean's list of spring 18 as well. Although it was really challenging I believe that continuing to pursue graphic design was the right choice. I also have another internship at a local t shirt company.

Overall I believe that if you want to major in art in general you should. My grandpa told me before I went to college to make sure to major in something that I have interest in and that really stuck with me. Hopefully I can inspire some more people the way my grandpa and ex boss inspired me.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
