Here are some up and coming major E-Sports tournaments.
Smash
The Big House 6:
The sixth installment of the mid-wests largest tournament is coming back to the University of Michigan to see who can claim victory in Super Smash Bros for Wii U and Super Smash Bros Melee. The tournament takes place over three days from October 7th to October 9th. With uncertainty going into the tournament about where people stand, this Big House will be another point of reference on whose number one in the world when it comes to both games. For Super Smash Bros. For Wii U there has been a constant flux of people winning tournaments and others falling out early. NRG Niaro, C9 Ally, and TSM Zero have all had histories of being on top for a certain amount of time but in previous tournaments they have all moved up and down in placements. For Super Smash Bros. Melee, HungryBox started the summer with a strong win over Armada at EVO 2016 but he has fallen short of getting other first place wins. Armada has also been on flux along with C9 Mango in terms of tournament placements but one player to look out for is Mew2king. He has been known to really step it up when it comes to Big House tournaments and it will be interesting to see if he can continue it for the sixth time.
Overwatch
Overwatch Open:
Despite being released back in May, Overwatch’s competitive scene has grown substantially and now has a $300,000 tournament whose final takes place on September 30th. This will be the first major tournament and this will be the time for a team to make a statement and try to define the direction of the scene.
League of Legends
Worlds:
For the third time the league of legends world championships will be held in North America with the final taking place at the Staples Center on October 29th. This year holds the possibility of having the first team to hold three world championships as SK Telecom looks to maintain their control over the League of legends professional scene. As more teams start to secure their spots we’ll see two teams from North America, Europe, Korea, China and teams from other places around the world. This year will be very interesting to see if the new format created for the North American League Championship Series and the European League Championship Series will help those two regions finally take matches away from either of the Korean teams.
