We all have that someone that feels like a forever person. Whether you find them at 2 years old, 12 years old, 22 years old, or even 40, hold onto that soul for a lifetime. Here’re some major key points that will help you keep that special high school sweetheart on your journey to college. No one said it would be easy, so prepare for all the obstacles that will be swung your way.

Trust:

Trust is extremely important when being in a relationship. You don’t want to waste your whole day wondering what your sweetheart is doing, and laying awake at night stressing where that person is. The best thing to do is put full trust in one another, and trust the love you guys share is real.

Honesty:

Honesty goes hand in hand with trust. If there’s no honesty there’s no trust, and it’s really that simple. No matter what it is, even if it’s the worst thing possible, you need to spill the beans. Eventually things always work itself out. If he or she is that special sweetheart, there will always be a way out.

Communication:

Communication is super crucial when you guys are separated. There’s absolutely no reason you two shouldn’t be talking at least once a day with the amount of ways we can communicate nowadays with all these nifty gadgets. If your sweetheart can’t make the time, then you know right there you need to cut it out for good.

Live Your Life to the Fullest:

From personal experience, if you don’t have a life at school, your relationship will have a good 0 chance to live. Join a club, sorority, sports team, or whatever your heart desires. Travel the world, make journeys with friends, and make stories to tell. This is the most important thing for yourself. If you are happy, your relationship will be happy. Don’t ever let anyone ever hold you back.

Be Rational:

You do not, by any means, want to be psycho, clingy, obsessive, or any of the above. That not only looks bad but takes a toll on your mental health. You always want to be on the same page. Make a compromise to talk throughout the day, and stay connected. Whenever the relationship has a little fall out, always stay positive, and always pick your battles wisely. Be rational in every situation. Make sure to use mind over emotion, which we all know tends to be very hard.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
