One thing I've noticed about college is that everything seems to be one giant competition. Whether it be who gets the best grades, who is a part of the most organizations, or who takes the most credits, everyone tends to challenge their selves to be better than their friends and fellow students. While this is all well and good, another form of "competition" that has been quite evident to me since I was just a little baby freshman is the competition between majors. Here is my list of why how hard/demanding/intense your major is, it doesn't compare to other majors that you've never even tried:
1. You picked your major.
I'm sorry that your major is hard, and I'm sorry that it exhausts you, but that's not my fault. No one is forcing you to do what you're doing, so I don't really care to hear you complain about it 24/7.
2. Every major has it's difficulties.
Yes, there are some majors that are notoriously difficult and some that are easier, but each major has it's own challenges. You might be a biology major and think that you wish your life was as easy as "making a bowl out of clay," but I'd love to see you get on the wheel and throw a flawless piece of art. Go ahead. I'll wait.
3. You're not better than anyone because of what you major in.
Every major exists for a reason. Not everyone is able to succeed in every major that exists. Everything that everyone is doing by continuing their education is a positive thing, so chill out.
4. Talking about your major like it matters more than others is simply a crappy thing to do.
It makes you look like an asshole. 'Nuff said.
So that's it, really. Stop being rude. Stop thinking that you're better than everyone else. Be nice to one another. Support one another.
