I believe music has such a special way to express how we feel when words fail. I listen to music every day in some form or fashion and honestly could not imagine a world where it did not exist. There are many different genres, but there is something special about how music can bring people from all walks of life together. I wanted to pick out and share a few of my favorite, upbeat songs that make me feel like the main character. I hope you give these a listen and enjoy!

"Rain" by Ben Platt. This song is from his album Sing to Me Instead (Deluxe) that he released in 2019. Platt has been one of my favorite artists for a few years now. I became a huge fan when my high school show choir started to learn "You Will Be Found" from Dear Evan Hansen for our spring performance. His range is insane and he hits those high notes beautifully. He has a Netflix special called Ben Platt Live From Radio City Music Hall that amazes me every time I watch it...(and it has been quite a few times). If you are like me and miss live music, I encourage you to give this a watch!

"Go" by Cody Fry. This is one of my favorites from his 2017 album called Flying. I love blasting this song with the opened sunroof and windows rolled down. The first time I saw Fry in concert was when he went on tour with Ben Rector in 2015. It was one of those nights that I look back on and I realize how much I miss live concert events. Fry has such an authentic voice and he just released a new album called "Pictures of Mountains". I encourage you to give it a listen...I have had it on repeat!

"Dancing in the Street" by Stephen Day. Day released this song in 2019 with his album Guess I'm Grown Now. This one makes me want to get up and dance anytime it comes on! The first time I saw Day perform live was last year when he came to play at MSU'S amphitheater, and I remember being in awe of his talent. He has a really cool way of connecting with his audience. When artists are able to perform in person again, he is at the top of my list to go see.

"Silhouettes" by Colony House. The band released this song in 2014 with their album When I Was Younger. My sister was the first to introduce me to Colony House, and we would always play this song in the car together. It's one of those that can put you in a better mood when you've had a rough day. The band came to MSU last year and performed in Bettersworth Auditorium in Lee Hall. I was so pumped to finally see them live, and they did not disappoint! They are able to draw their audience in and you can tell that they are passionate about their music.

Maybe you were already familiar with these songs, but if not I hope you give these artists and their albums a listen. Hopefully, these can give you a little break from reality and I encourage you to share the songs that make YOU feel like the main character!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
