It has been quite rainy where I live these past few days, so I have wisely spent my time watching "Harry Potter" movies on Freeform. As I sit here drooling over Tom Felton (aka Draco Malfoy), I can't help but notice all of the thought and imagination that would have gone into these movies to make them as popular and amazing as they are. Here are some magical "Harry Potter" movie facts.
1. Dumbledore's telescope was the most expensive prop.
This telescope is engraved with multiple zodiacs and was the most expensive prop used in any of the series' movies.
2. Apple juice was used as Butter Beer in some scenes.
If you have ever had butterbeer at Universal, you would know that this beverage is extremely sweet and drinking too much of it can get sickening. I don't blame the crew for giving the cast apple juice in most of the scenes.
3. Each chandelier in Gringotts bank has more than 25,000 crystals.
4. The Sword of Gryffindor was bought at an auction.
The crew redesigned the sword. They added a new hilt and inscribed Godric Gryffindor's name on the side.
5. It took them eight weeks to film the Knight bus scenes in London.
They had to shut down the roads in London at night-time to get all of the shots that eventually made it into the movie.
6. All of the food in the Great Hall scenes in "Sorcerer Stone" is real.
All of it, 100% real. Oh, how I wish I was an extra in those scenes.
7. Rupert Grint (aka Ron Weasley) is actually afraid of spiders.
All of those scenes with Aragog and his babies made it much easier to film due to Grint's arachnophobia.
8. The actor who played young Tom Riddle is actually related to Ralph Fiennes (aka Voldemort).
You're welcome.
9. Domhnall Gleeson (aka Bill Weasley) and Brendan Gleeson (aka Mad Eyed Moody) are actually related.
Domhnall is Brendan's son, and the two of them can be found in scenes together in "Deathly Hallows: Part 1."
10. The scene where Voldemort hugs Draco Malfoy was improvised.
Ralph Fiennes caught Tom Felton (aka Draco Malfoy) off guard when he hugged him in this scene. So, Felton's reaction was genuine.
11. Bonus Fact: Neville Longbottom could have been "The Chosen One."
Not related to the "behind the scenes" of the movies in particular, but still shocking nevertheless. If you pay attention to the scene at the end of "Order of the Pheonix", Dumbledore is telling Harry about how the prophecy applied to two boys.
Both boys had to be born at the end of July, and both of them had to have parents that escaped Voldemort three times as well as been a part of the Order of the Pheonix. This prophecy applied to both Neville Longbottom and Harry Potter, but Harry Potter became the true "Chosen One" due to the fact that Voldemort physically chose him to by giving him the scar on his forehead.
