While I myself am generally a fan of mild weather and don't like to be too hot or too cold there's something so magic about snow that all the cold weather is worth it. Waking up to see the world covered in white is one of my favorite feelings in the world. Everything looks so beautiful with the snow covering it and the sunlight making the white sparkle. Plus everything seems so quiet and peaceful in the snow. It feels like the whole world has transformed when it's covered in snow.
I get it, the snow is inconvenient but honestly to me the inconvenience is worth all of the beauty. I hate cleaning off my car, walking to class in the cold and all of the inconveniences that come with the snow as much as the next person, but it's all worth it to get to enjoy the beauty of the snow. Especially this time of year, when Christmas is fast approaching and people are beginning to decorate. The magic of Christmas combined with the magic of snow is so beautiful and perfect.
That's why this year, despite having to walk a lot more than any other year and being exposed to the cold more than ever before, I'm hoping for a white Christmas. As cliche as it sounds, Christmas is my favorite time of the year. I love it more than any other holiday, including my birthday, because the spirits and the sentiments behind it are so pure. While this is not true for everyone and many people think it's just an excuse for presents for me it's much more than that. Something about the snow and the lights and the music just makes me think about the world a little differently. Christmas time always makes me see the beauty in the world in a way that I forget to during the rest of the year.
I know it's easy to get wrapped up in the consumer side of Christmas, especially for those who aren't religious, but honestly, to me the magic of Christmas has nothing to do with gifts and everything to do with the spirit. The warmth and happiness that's found during the holidays not only from friends and family but from strangers is something that's hard to find the rest of the year. Or maybe, it's just something we forget to look for. Either way, Christmas has a way of making me see the good in the world around me. So, this year instead of getting wrapped up in the inconvenience of snow or the consumer side of Christmas take a minute to stop and feel the magic that's in the air.
