10 Magic Spells From The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter We Need In 2019

In This Article:

We all know that the only time we see magic is if it is followed by tricks. Sometimes there is a magic we cannot explain, but what if we could use it? "Harry Potter" never runs out of solutions to his problems. It is only fair that he shares the fantasy with our reality. Here are some spells we could use in 2019.

1. Evanesco.

When it comes to cleaning and organizing, Marie Kondo is the real-life wizard you go to. Instead of placing things in their rightful place and sorting through what you can throw out, why not just make it vanish? It does not matter where it ends up going. The important thing is a clean, clear space to live in. Out of sight, out of mind.

2. Portus.

National security is heavy-handed with travel and immigration. Sometimes the only reason you have for traveling somewhere is that it would just be nice to have a getaway. No aims or agendas, only some new scenery. Portkeys can be made from any everyday object and the travel is instantaneous. Of course, the feeling Portkeys give you during travel is no fun, but at least you can say goodbye to passports and paperwork.

3. Homenum Revelio.

Everything and everyone has the power to be anonymous, offline and online. It would be nice to point out the people responsible for your low self-esteem and those questionable internet activities. Maybe you lost your friend in the crowd and you need to find your way back to him or her. Using this spell is the closest thing to a magical GPS: a Global Person Seeker.

4. Accio.

You're in bed and your alarm goes off across the room. There is some money you found that is hard to get to behind your furniture. That tub of ice cream you have been dying to dive into for dessert is all the way in the back of the freezer. No distance is too far for this spell to bring you the items you desire. Curl up into a couch potato and enjoy the extra helping hand.

5. Reparo.

Face it, you are frugal and do not like to start, or finish, DIY projects. The only way to fix something that is broken is to hire help that knows what they are doing. Instead, replay that clumsy step of yours to put back together that precious heirloom you mishandled. No one knows the wiser.

6. Taboo.

There are all those buzzwords buzzing around, it becomes hard to keep up with them. Knowing which to look out for and be careful of is not so easy either. With this spell, the notification bell is no longer necessary. The words that have lost their meaning in a conversation can be reviewed, revised, or revoked moving forward. It also makes for a great way to measure the amount of crap or truth coming out of someone's mouth.

7. Obliviate.

Like an eraser that leaves no trace, there are times when you wish the years past were not so memorable. Hiding these memories might not be the best to deal with trauma or an uncomfortable experience, but considering recent events, there is no shame in hiding them from yourself. Just do not forget that you used this spell!

8. Silencio.

Some people have bigger mouths than they know what to do with. If it is not closed, it is open with a mind of its own. To cut the chatter down a size, this spell will come in handy at a loud event, in a library, or between you and someone who has the mouth of a megaphone.

9. Episkey

Waiting for a bruise or a cut to heal is annoying. The process requires bandages, rubbing alcohol, and maybe even something invasive like stitches. But why not have those small injuries remedied within moments? Episkey is the Neosporin of "Harry Potter."

10. Expecto Patronum

GillyWeed

The spell that places the bad and the ugly behind you to make room for the good that is ahead of you is powerful and pivotal. It is more than a metaphor, it is a form of daily magic, a magic that does not need a wand. It only requires the best of you and the best of you to come.

2019 could use some miracle workers, and these spells will finish the job.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
