If there's any generation that will say "back in my day" with the kind of love of a Tamagotchi parent, it's late-90s kids. We've always been so desperate to be a part of the 90s generation that we fervently vouch for anything 90s-related, even though we couldn't even talk until 2000 (but it's fine, we're fine).
It goes to show, then, that we lived forRecess, Hey Arnold, All That, and of course,The Magic School Bus. Ms. Frizzle wasn't just the teacher we wanted, she was the hero we needed. So, it only makes sense that I was as excited as Wanda Li when I found out Fiona, the main character in The Magic School Bus Rides Again, would be voiced by girl-boss Kate McKinnon. Simply put, Kate takes no sh*t, much like her character's predecessor. In the Ghostbusters reboot, she showed a smart and quirky side that totally fits the nerdy theme of The Magic School Bus. And, obviously, she's just funny af.
With that in mind, I was surprised to see so much backlash toward the new Netflix show when I saw the preview for it. But then I remembered the pride that all 90s kids have in their cartoons (you know you do, don't deny it). In every comment, there was a, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' mentality, which totally makes sense. Everyone knows Fuller House doesn't even hold a torch to the original (is it even a full house without Michelle?!). And, is it just me or... does Raven's Home just not have the same vibe as the first series? With trends like these, it's hard not to be as skeptical as Keesha taught us to be (basically crossing my fingers it's not bad oh bad oh bad, bad, bad).
What are we gonna do, you ask? Well, as the o.g. cool teacher once said, "Take chances!" So, on September 29th, seat belts everyone, because we may well have been frizzled.
*A+ if you caught all the Magic School Bus references*
