Magic Has Its Way Of Showing Me How To Live

Sometimes all you need is Harry Potter.

Bustle

I am one hell of a Harry Potter fan. There's something about witchcraft and wizardry that seems to get to me. I had read all seven books at least five times, I own all eight movies and I even have a wand. Just like any good movie should, there is something to be learned at the end. There is always a moral or an eye-opening situation that you probably never thought of. Here are 10 things that I will never forget growing up from watching and readingHarry Potter:

1. Believe in Magic

Sounds silly doesn't it? Because we are mundanes and we don't rely on magic to do our work... there is always a little bit of magic inside us that make us who we are.

2. Know Who Your Real Friends Are

In the past couple of years, I learned to quickly cut-off the people that had a negative impact on my life. I realized that I know who I am with or without these people that I used to refer to as my friends. Now, I am a much better person without most of them.

3. Study, Study, Study!

You always wonder how Hermione Granger is the on top of her class because she invests her careless times and focuses on her studies to aim high in life. She's a true genius.

4. You're Given a Freedom

There is freedom in this world. You just have to remember how to use it. We have the right to everything, but we don't exercise these rights which is why we fail.

5. Bend the Rules

Can you imagine how many rules Harry, Hermione and Ron broke during their time in Hogwarts? Hundreds. Don't even get me started on the Weasley boys. But have you noticed the results of their actions. It becomes rewarding. It's all about knowing what is right and wrong in a given situation.

6. Defending Your Pride

Props to Neville Longbottom for sticking out for his friends and himself in a certain time of need. He exhibits compassion, loyalty and truth.

7. It's OK to Be Weird

Let your inner weirdness run free! Take Luna Lovegood for example, she may be a bit odd, but we all love her the same. Being normal is vastly overrated. You are who you are and people will fall in love with you for it. So always go beyond your elements. You'll enjoy life a little more.

8. There is Such Thing as True Love

Maybe if you don't look around too hard for your perfect person, they'll end up finding you. So do you in the meantime. You don't need someone to make you happy. You create your own happiness.

9. Death Means a "New Life"

We all lost a significant person in our time and we miss them every day, but we forget that they're always with us in spirit. Always.

10. It's OK to Be Scared

Don't let fear get in the game, but it's OK to admit that you're not feeling alright. We all get upset, frustrated, happy and all sorts of emotions. I'm scared all the time, but it's how we feel. We can't always control our emotions, but there is happiness within them. Just breathe and remember it.

One day, "we all must face the choice between what is right and what is easy." -Albus Dumbledore

Remember who you are because that is all you're going to have at one point. It's easy to learn than make mistake, but also easy to make mistakes and learn from them.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
