"No" is an important word and to know how to use it in your best interest is even more important. Madeleine Mayi has this word tattooed on the inside of her arm, and I can only imagine the drive it has given her to go after the things she knows that she wants. Now that she has, we are fortunate enough to have been left with her new EP, "shy".

Written and produced by Madeleine herself, the project is an introspective look at her own relationships using her sound of indie rock and vintage synths. Through themes of uncertainty and distance, she has created a record that makes the listener think about their own relationships. The third song, "WHATEVER I DO", repeats "Can't feel my love, through your phone / So cancel all your plans and come on over" which puts such a modern twist on the relationships that people tend to have these days. When most communication is happening over text or even Snapchat, it's hard to convey how much someone means to you, when all you really want to do is spend your time with them in person.

The fourth song on the EP "RECORD SPEED" is the type of song that you want to drive down the highway to with the windows down, while the sun is setting. The song gives off that vibe nearly immediately, but contextually the song fits the vibe exactly, "People in the rear view I never remember to talk to / Drive a little faster I'm dying to feel you".

"SAY IT AGAIN" gave me a feeling of nostalgia and set me back to a time in my own life where I was waiting for someone and wanted to say everything and anything to them about how I felt. The chorus, "I'll say it again if I need / To say it again 'cuz I been / Waiting to say it all and I will / Say it again / I'll say it again / To say it again 'cuz I been / Waiting to say it all / I'll say it, " will get stuck in your head in the best way a song could.

After putting out her debut EP Just The Six Of Us, Madeleine challenged herself even more to broaden her writing ability, both stylistically and by using specific themes. This project was an exploration for Madeleine and because of its authenticity, it allows the listener to also explore those things within themselves, "This project is an exploration into uncertainty and how it manifests in our lives, both within ourselves and in our relationships with others. It's called "shy" because the character is unsure of how much of herself to share with those people in her life."

"shy" is now available across all streaming platforms now.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
