The Republic of Madagascar (formerly: Malagasy Republic) is a country located off the coast of eastern Africa. It is one of the largest islands in the world. Its wildlife is very unique and can only be found there. It gained its independence in 1960. Its population is about 26 million. Its capital city is called Antananarivo.

There are about 8 ethnic groups in Madagascar. The main 4 ones are:

- 26% Merina (mostly Christians).

- 15% Betsimisaraka.

- 12% Betsileo.

- 7% Tsimihety.

Madagascar is known to be the source of Vanilla and a lot of people there have jumped into the business because it is very lucrative and keeps going up. It provided a good source of living for many families.

The president of Madagascar is Andry Rajoelina who came to office in 2019. He was head of a political party called Young Malagasies Determined.

Madagascar is considered to be one of the poorest countries in the world as GDP Per Capita. People there are clearly suffering from extreme poverty as they live in very simple houses.

Is it fair that a lot of people live the life of luxury while others suffer from famine?
