Mad About March

March — it's madness, they say.

Mad About March

The month that dads, and most ages of the male species, race home from work to watch all of the basketball games they missed. (I'm sorry- hold on. Have you heard of ESPN Live?) Furthermore, the month that employers pay their employees to stream basketball at their desks. The month that your best friend comes out of the sport-loving closet. The month that I envy the women who have a dedication to sports. The month that wives have a mile long "honey do" list, but watching basketball seems to be number one. March is the month I have to watch TV in my room.

As a St. Louis baby, in a baseball-obsessed house, I have been groomed to "love" baseball. It catches my eye, and honestly, I do like watching it. Plus, I know what's going on (most of the time). Basketball, on the other hand, apparently does not have my full understanding. I mean, seriously, all you do is shoot the ball into the net. Right?

My time on the basketball court did not last long. Most of my memories involve tears, which to attest to my career in athletics, so did swim meets, volleyball and softball games, and most definitely, golf matches. I caught the ball in the middle of a volleyball game. (No, the whistle had not been blown). I played right field in softball. (Nuff said). And golf? Well, golf was just a long day for a girl that wanted to hang at the pool.

My famous basketball moment was in the third-grade tournament. All of my friends and family were there, and I was so proud (of what? I have no idea). The ball rarely came to me because my teammates were smart, but in this particular moment in the second half, the ball was in my possession. I shot, I scored. It was amazing. I was shocked, and so was my team, the crowd, and my coach. In case you were wondering, all you do is shoot it into the net, BUT before you do, make sure it's the right one. Who knew we switched sides of the court at half?

Obviously playing (and watching) sports is not my thing, but I am happy to give all basketball lovers their time this month. I understand that all meals must be eaten at a bar with TVs galore. I respect that the day needs to be planned around which game is most important. And I will even fill out a bracket for you, but I'll need a list of team colors to help.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
