Ma'am Do You Know Why You Are Being Pulled Over?

Well, on Sunday evening, I was pulled over by a police officer coming home from my job. I work at a pizzaria as a waitress so I was just on my feet and tired from my day. I took the back way home so I could roll down my windows and jam out to some good ole country music. For all my friends who know me, I like to drive on the faster side. I decided that night to enjoy the nice cool air so I went the speed limit maybe a little under. But the police officer followed me about 4 miles before I got pulled over and was pulled over in another town not in his own.

When getting pulled over these things may just happen to you..

Trying to find your license and registration should be easy I mean since I was 17 my dad always told me where my registration is, pointed it out, and always kept me up to date with my new insurance card. Well, I never really listened to my dad where it was and it took me about 15 minuets just to find it while he is blinding me with his flashlight. All I kept saying was sorry I don't know where it is. Then for my license, I have a tendency to move it to different wallets and purses, and that took about 5 minuets to go through two purses and 3 wallets in my car... The moral of this story know where you keep everything.

Being hit on by the police officer is always a blast and a self booster. Now any girl will take advantage of being hit on because there is the thought in the back of anyone's mind "maybe I'll get out of this ticket." Those who have been pulled over have tried batting the eyes, moving their shirt down a little show them the girls and talking super sweet. Then maybe they will compliment you on something or relate to you. A lot of the times it will work and you get off of a warning, but be careful. Moral of that be nice.

Do you know why I have pulled you over today?

1. For making an illegal left hand turn (not clearly marked) adding in was driving in a different state. How are we suppose to know their laws, we only get tested on New Jersey's.

2. Riding the shoulder: I like to hug the white line and that is because I'm scared of being closer to the cars on the opposite side of traffic. It also help me see when I am driving at night...night blindness can be such a struggle. Who knew riding the shoulder was such a crime here in Morris County.

3. Driving through a yellow: well my dad always said, "go like hell to beat the red." Plus who doesn't like a little completion "let's see who will win, the light or I!"

4. Kinda having trouble obeying traffic signs and signals: they tell you pay attention to the road...and everything around you. How the heck am I suppose to do all of that? Don't they want me to keep my self and other safe?

5. Not putting the car lights on: first you should ask your friend if their car lights are automatic or manual than propose to ask how do I turn them on. I have learned that lesson when I had to drive my friends car home from her college. The college security guards are the ones who pulled me over, interrogated me instead of just letting me know they were off.

6. Speeding: they best question do you know how fast you were going? Obviously not since I am pulled over for speeding. I mean it's kinda hard not to go the speed limit when you know their roads like the back of your hand, when everyone one on 80 goes 80 (if not faster) and when the speed limits take a drastic drop like on 287 when it's 65 and drop down to 40 without warning they get you every time.

7. Tailgating: as my uncles likes to call it "drafting!" That's what they do in nascar and it does help save on gas. But it does happen when people break because well who the heck knows and then for the next mile everyone is braking and up everyone's bumper.

They remind you of your father. When an older police officer pulls you over and they give you the look of what if this was my kid and relate to you and your struggles. They ask you about school, what you want to be when you grow up, where you going, coming from, what's your favorite sports team, etc. the typical parent questionnaire. Normally they feel for you and will let you off with a warning. They do take sympathy on the younger drivers.

Crying...it can only get you so far, so pick the police officer who is a little softer and that gives sympathy. "My dad is going to kill" best line shile crying you are golden because no one is going to mess with that. Now if you are able to cry on the spot (like me) you are golden and if you can not think of something cute like a puppy or this red panda. And if that doesn't work think about someone who just ate you favorite meal!

All else fails tell a joke:

Once the officer got the information he needed I tired to be funny and tell a joke..

Me: "I know why you pulled me over"

PO: Why?

Me: Because I am cute and you want to take me to dinner...

He laughed, didn't get a ticket but it really was because I was hugging the shoulder...

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week.
