Dear Mom And Dad

I cannot thank you enough for everything that you have done for me.

Dear Mom and Dad,

Over the last 19 years, you both have done so much for me and there are not enough words or actions that can show how lucky I am to have parents like you. I might not always seem appreciative or seem like I am taking things for granted, but trust me I appreciate everything and try my best not to take things for granted. Sure we might not always get along or agree on something, but that is all a part of life. There are also times where we all agree on something, and I must admit, it can be scary sometimes! I am dedicating this article to you to show you that I really am thankful for everything you both have done for me.

To start off, I want to say thank you for always being there for me no matter what the problem was. Regardless of what the problem may have been, I knew I could always count on both of you to be there and offer help. Over the years, I have lost some friends because they weren't exactly a "friend" like they said they were, but I knew that I would always have you. Knowing this, I knew that no matter how big the problem was, I would always have someone to give me the support and advice that I needed.

Secondly, I want to say thank you for doing your best to deal with me during tough times. I know that I might not be the easiest person to get along with, but you guys have always dealt with me and my attitude when I was having a bad day. I must say that my attitude was not the best on some days, and I honestly don't know how you dealt with it. There aren't a lot of people who could put up with me, but you guys figured out strategies and ways to deal with me. I am not exactly sure how you managed to do this, but thank you so much!

I also want to say thank you for always managing to get me what I wanted. I know that I am a rather expensive type of person, and I want to say thank you for all of the times that you would give me money to go out with friends or just extra spending money to have. In addition to that, you both always worked so hard to make sure that I had the latest trend of clothing, shoes, or even cell phone. All of that was not cheap, I realize that now and there are not enough words to say thank you for that. As the years went by, I realized that having the latest invention of everything was not everything in life. So thank you for all of the investments that you have made for me in the last 19 years. Let's not forget about helping me out with college, but we will save that discussion for another time!

Lastly, I would not be half of the person that I am today without you guys in my life. You both have told me since I was little to follow my dreams and don't let anybody stop me. You guys also told me that I need to do my best and I will see results and get one step closer to reaching my goals. I have taken so many life lessons away from you and have learned so many new things because of you.

I have learned so many life lessons from both of you, and hope that someday I can be half of the role model to my children that you are to me. I know that I don't tell you enough, but thank you for everything that you have done for me and for being such great parents. I love you both so much and would be lost without you. I give you all of the credit in the world for turning me into the person that I am today. There are not enough words to describe how much you both mean to me, and I want you to know that. So once again, thank you for everything that you have provided and done for me in the last 19 years. I couldn't have asked for anything more.

Love,

Your daughter

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
