I just wanna be where they are. I wanna be blown away, wanna be swept off me feet. I wanna meet the one who makes it hard for me to breathe. I want the music in my soul to play loud while I show the world who I am without fear. Music is emotion. There is no other way to put it. Music is downside up and upside down. It’s a mix of every emotion anyone has ever had. Each song plays a story, whether it be of love or loss or friendship, it is a story we will all someday come to experience. I believe it is the greatest feeling when you turn on the radio and find that perfect song that seems to just describe your life in every way. You listen to it on repeat until you are sick of it, and then you go and find a new song.
But the true magic in music is that not only does it seem to emulate our everyday lives, but seems to help us understand them, too. Like when he broke my heart, and I cut my bangs with some rusty kitchen scissors. I screamed his name ‘til the neighbors called the cops. Or when I have a crush, and I can feel you comin’ from a mile away, my pulse starts racin’ from the words that you say. Music can heal hearts and inspire dreams. Like when we were little sitting in the car, our favorite song would have ended and we would have kept singin “ah ha ha, I just wanna be a rockstar.”
Music is there for us when we feel like no one else could ever understand what we are going through. Music, you are my homie, lover and friend. When the world tries to tear us down, music is what fills our hearts, blocking out anything bad that could ever enter.
We all need and have a protector whether we like it or not because there will always be those moments when we say “I think I did it again, I made you believe that everything would be perfect, but I was wrong.” Music is there when your friends aren’t, when your family can’t be, when you need help but don’t know who to turn to. Music is there when you’re feeling fergalicious and when you’re thinking “If I was you, I’d wanna be me, too.”
I guess what I want to say is that there is no greater ally than music. Now, that’s all I have to say so baby, can we dance?
