Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Simple Man" Holds Timeless Advice

"Oh, won't you do this for me, son, if you can."

Super Seventies

I've listened to Lynyrd Skynyrd since I was born. I was raised with a love for the southern rock band and the albums they released. As I got older, and more adventurous in the genres I listen to, I've still continued to love Lynyrd Skynyrd all the same.

One of their songs that has resonated with me the most is "Simple Man". Not only does the song have a great tune, it also holds timeless advice for living a good life.

"Take your time, don't live too fast. Troubles will come, and they will pass."

My favorite line from the song, it tells you not to race through your life. Yes, you will have problems, but there is always light at the end of the tunnel.

"And don't forget, son, there is someone up above."

We all have a tendency of placing blame, rather than looking to God and believing in His plan. This line reminds us how important it is to remember He is there.

"Be something you love and understand."

This line tells us to be who we want to be and nothing else.

"Forget your lust for the rich man's gold. All that you need is in your soul."

We can't get caught up in what we don't have materialistically. This line advises us to, instead, focus on what we have within ourselves. That is what really matters.

"Boy, don't you worry. You'll find yourself. Follow your heart, and nothing else."

So often we spend our time worrying about everything. This line tells us to follow our hearts, don't worry, and everything will work out.

If only we all followed this advice... the world would be a lot better off.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
