Now, almost every girl has a brand line that they swear by. And if they do, it can often change. I, however, have a couple because not one brand is going to control everything. For my hair, it’s SheaMoisture, and for my body is Aveeno. But I finally found a holy grail brand line. First, let me tell you where my problem is.
At first, it was my hair. My hair once had a set wave pattern, it was a perfect one. But with all the bleaching and straightening that I’ve done on my hair, it was fried. I did a big chop. My hair was a little longer than shoulder length and I had gone to the salon to do a pixie cut (by the way, if your hair grows in a triangle, don’t do it). Ever since then, I’ve been looking for hair products to help. Although SheaMoisture has helped in the past, it didn’t do as much as my holy grail brand. I soon cut down my collection of SheaMoisture products. Other than my hair, there was my acne problem.
Since I was a young girl, maybe nine or ten, I’ve had acne. On top of that, I picked at my skin whenever I was nervous, bored or whenever I could. That lead to dark marks all over my skin. Those dark marks only added onto the hyperpigmentation that I already suffered from. Over the years I’ve tried different acne products, my acne was so severe that I needed to go to a dermatologist. The simplest thing I could've done was to eat right and wash my face. And as a forgetful person and one who didn’t wear makeup a lot, washing my face wasn’t always on my mind. Through all and all; Neutrogena wasn’t working. However, Biore and Clean and Clear helped. Unfortunately Clean and Clear, the product that was actually working, discontinued.
At the time I discovered my holy grail products, the brand was really popular and I didn’t want to go near it at first. If you couldn’t tell by the title, I’m talking about Lush, who is most famous for their bath bombs. Lush is an investment, it is expensive if you're a broke and jobless college student. However, some of their products are decently priced for their size. A little packs a punch when it comes to Lush. I used to be obsessed with their bath bombs but I decided to give their hair and face products a try. I struggled with split ends, dry hair. To make it even worse, my hair was so badly damaged, that it didn’t have a set texture or curl pattern. I started off with a hot oil treatment. It worked, but I only got two uses out of it. I moved onto their Dirty styling cream. As I was putting it into my hair, twisting it and scrunching it up, my hair returned to its' natural curl pattern which made me happy. After that, I moved onto their henna and jasmine hair treatment, which is what made me fall in love with their hair products. It did everything that it said it would, and I was in LOVE. It was then that I decided that it was really worth the investment and as long as I saved my money correctly, I could continue buying these products. Their products last a long time because you don’t have to put a lot in your hair. A little can go a long way. Ever since then, my Lush collection has grown.
When I moved onto their face collection, I was skeptical. Yes, it's organic, but just because it’s organic doesn’t mean it’ll react well to your skin. I have crazy combination skin that has a mind of its' own. It never settles in one place and that was frustrating. I brought their face products one at a time, seeing how one worked before I built up my collection. Unlike my hair treatment, the acne treatment worked within the first day. I can see how brighter my skin was with my hyperpigmentation and how my acne started to go down. Once I found out that one product was working for my skin, I took the chance and splurged on their face products that contained natural ingredients such as henna and coconut oil, mainly focusing on frizz. Every time I go there, I know my collection will grow bigger. But I'm not upset about that because I'm spending my money on something that actually worked.
Why do I make a big deal about it? It’s not every day you find a company that works well with natural hair textures and it’s not every day that hair products work on my hair. You struggle to find the perfect routine. When you do, you have to take the chance and stock up. It’s never guaranteed that the products that work for you will stay in stock. Different seasons come and go so that means their products come and go. I had people tell me that I invest in this company way too much and that it isn’t worth the money. You can’t knock it until you try it. People spend tons of money on other things, I can do so with beauty products. I love to. It’s for me and it’s not like it doesn’t work. I spend days and days telling my friends and family members about it, and as soon as they can to get their hands on a few of Lush's products, They have also fallen in love. So, those people who doubt it are just sour about it.
Let me tell you something, I’m Lush obsessed and I ain’t even mad about it. If any of you want to know what products I’ve used, leave a comment below and I’ll get back to you.
