10 Reasons LSU’s Mike The Tiger Is The Best Live Mascot Ever, SEC Or Otherwise

When a school has a live tiger that lives on campus, why bother going anywhere else?

Mike the Tiger has been an institution at Louisiana State University since 1936. He is more than a symbol — literally. Yes, we have a live tiger living on our campus. I don't know whose idea it was to put a tiger on a college campus, but I will be eternally grateful for whoever's responsible.

There have been many Mikes throughout the years, and the title is currently held by Mike VII, a Bengal-Siberian mix that came to LSU from a sanctuary in Okeechobee, FL, called Wild at Heart Wildlife Center.

I may be a bit biased, but here are 10 reasons why Mike the Tiger is the best mascot EVER!

1. He's cute

Just look at that face!

Tigers are technically cats, and what's cuter than a 400 pound cat?!

2. He's funny

Big cheesing!

Mike is a young, animated tiger, so it's no wonder he's so goofy!

3. He's relatable

What do tigers dream of when they take a little tiger snooze?

Much to the envy of every student on campus, Mike spends most of his days sleeping. If only we could all be like Mike...

4. He has his own Twitter

There's nothing better that can pop up on your timeline!

Mike has more followers than me, and I'm not even mad about it.

5. He eats his pre-game meal in the shape of the opponent

Taking "let's eat" to a higher, more literal level.

Our tiger eats your team for lunch!

6. He's a rescue

Visit your local animal shelter if you're looking for a tiger of your own.

Mike comes from a sanctuary in Florida called Wild at Heart. Mike's the kind of mascot that money can't buy!

7. He's Mike VII — lucky number 7

We're lucky to have such a lucky tiger!

As the seventh Mike, Mike VII has the honor of bearing lucky number 7! That luck should kick in sooner or later.

8. He's accessible

What a sight to see!

Old or young, tall or short, anyone can watch Mike when he's out and about! (Although, be warned — he's usually sleeping!)

9. He's a tiger

If looks could kill...

I mean, does it get any cooler? (Spoiler alert: no, it doesn't.)

10. He's ours

The greatest mascot EVER!

LSU is such an amazing place to get an education, and the fact that we have our very own tiger to represent us is icing on the cake!

We love you, Mike!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
