Lowcountry Beaches

The best of the East Coast.

Lowcountry Beaches

Summer in the Lowcountry has been a dream. From exploring the cobblestone streets of Charleston, to nights spent watching the sunset over the Battery, sometimes I want to pinch myself hoping it’s actually real. Yet, aside from the best seafood and key lime pie around, my favorite part of summer in Charleston is simple: The beach. Charleston is surrounded by some of the best beaches on the East Coast, and here is a list of my top-5 favorites. Take a road trip with friends or a week-long family vacation and checkout my favorite sandy places!

1. Sullivan's Island

This beach is by far my favorite in all of Charleston. Not only is this public beach easily accessible (with easy-to-find parking), it has the best little beach town around. After an afternoon in the sun- check out some of my favorite places like gogogreens or Poe's Tavern.

2. Kiawah Island

This has been a favorite of mine since I was a kid. Definitely family-friendly, this little beach-village is the perfect getaway for family, or a laid-back girls trip. Go biking, take a walk, or dine at the beautiful Ocean Course.

3. Wild Dunes

Another definite fave. Yet, the only down-side I've experienced about this beautiful beach: You need a pass to get in. Luckily, I've had a friend staying at Wild Dunes for the past week and have been able to tag along. It's breathtaking, quiet, and the perfect beach town for a little get away. Definitely recommend for a family vacation!

4. Folly Beach

Known for its beautiful boardwalk and sea-life, Folly Beach is a wonderful getaway. Looking for some shopping? Only 10 miles away from downtown Charleston. Want to checkout some historical sites? Folly Beach is only around 10 miles from Fort Sumter. The perfect trip for the shopaholic or the history-lover!

5. Isle of Palms

This beach is definitely the party beach. Known for its fun-loving beach bar, The Windjammer, this beach is perfect for a college-trip, or a high school reunion weekend. Hang out, grab a few chairs, and pack the cooler- this beach is quite the party!

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
