Everything we love and hate about tourists

When you live in a well-known city, or a tourist infested beach town, it's EASY to recognize a local vs. a tourist. They're buying packs of water bottles at the grocery store and might be looking at a map of the city while standing in the middle of the sidewalk. They probably are wearing backpacks and are loaded up on gear for a full day on the beach or in the town.

The truth is: we've all been that person, but we've also all shaken our heads at that person.

What can ya do? If you're a local somewhere you automatically feel superior to all the tourists. You know the in's and out's of the town and everything it has to offer.

They steal your parking spaces and cause the traffic jams. They're all also probably terrible drivers. And working a job that attracts tourists, another nightmare. Constantly asking "where are you from?" and saying "have a great rest of your vacation" gets seriously old.

However, despite the fanny packs and the traffic jams, it goes to show that you live in an AWESOME place!

People travel hundreds or thousands of miles to visit the spot where YOU live every day! You get to live your life in a vacation spot. And despite the tourist traps and the hassle, living in a tourist destination guarantees that you'll meet new cool people everywhere you go! You can meet people from all around the world, and people look to you to see where the hot spots of the town are. And they teach you to appreciate your city! Sometimes it's fun to be a tourist!

I live on a tourist-filled beach island in the summer and go to school in the #1 ranked tourist spot in the U.S. It's pretty cool being surrounded by so much diversity.

THANKS, TOURISTS for making my home that much better!

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
