Love Yourself

Earthly love does not compare to the love of Christ.

Big Sean said, “I hope you learn to make it on your own. If you love yourself you will never be alone.” Although I don’t find Big Sean to be a great philosopher, or someone pushing the furtherance of God’s word, I do find a great deal of truth in this statement. However, it is only true if that love for yourself comes from Jesus.

If you love the way the Lord made you and accept the imperfections that He designed, you're on the right track. But let's go back to the first sentence. Making it on your own is something that no one wants to go through. Independence, though, is a great trait. If you have a close relationship with Christ, you know that you won't ever be alone. For some of us, our journey thus far has been pretty lonely. Adults become harder and harder to trust because it seems like the ones closest to you will continually let you down. This is where loving yourself comes in.

If you constantly seek the approval of the people who surround you, you will be indefinitely lonely. If you love yourself and trust that the love Christ has for you is enough, you can make it on your own. Humans don't possess perfect love, only the Lord can give that to you. Many people strive to find their place in the human world when their “place” is already waiting for them in eternity. As hard as it is, we are supposed to allow broken promises, rejection, and unkind words to roll right off our backs. When these things come from those who are closest to us, sometimes it is more difficult to swallow. Even those we see as the Godliest people in our lives will most likely let us down.You have to remember that they are still human, and even if they are close to the Lord, He didn't send you that hurt, the enemy did. No matter your rank on the Christianity scale, we are all still sinners just trying to make our way to the top.

My point is that no matter how close you are to someone, they aren't perfect and they will not fill the void that the Lord can. Don't strive for acceptance from the human world. Love yourself the way the Lord made you and you will be able to make it on your own. The love you search for here on earth is temporary. The love you get from Christ is forever. I would rather be alone with the Him that filled with temporary and imperfect love any day.

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. 1. People asking if you're mad at them.

2. Those people who hand out flyers don't always try to stop you.

3. Creepy guys telling you to smile.

4. "I thought you were a bitch when I first met you."

5. People telling you you'd be "so much prettier if you smiled."

6. Doing your makeup and looking great, which somehow intensifies the bitch face.

7. Regularly explaining "it's just my face."

We all go through certain stages when we have a crush, Tina just explains it better.

That moment that someone you never looked twice at suddenly makes you do a double take out of no where.

But you can't have a crush, that's outrageous. It's all in your head.

Because you don't have a crush, there's no reason to tell anyone about anything. Right?

But then they do something irresistible and you start to lose it.

Now accepting the fact you have a crush, you have to keep it under control.

Then there's the part where you tell your friends who will claim they called it.

They'll be excited and cheer you on. That's until they realize that your crush is all you'll be talking about.

Your obsession has become so bad, that your Facebook stalking is getting out of control.

But your friends will try and help move things along any way they can. That doesn't mean it will be any helpful though.

As time goes on, you start having fantasies about the two of you and it's starting to scare you a little.

You can't focus on anything because all your attention is on them and everything they do.

Anybody who comes near your crush is now an enemy, and you are willing to fight for your crush.

When you see them, you act like an idiot. Trying to hide your feelings may not be as discrete as you think.

Keeping your feelings inside will start to be harder and harder until you can't keep it inside anymore.

Who knows, maybe it will work out? Take a chance.
