Love Your Jeans

Beauty is not represented in how small your clothing is.

Love Your Jeans

I want to have a goal of being more body positive this year. I know that it is VERY typical to want to work out religiously and become a vegetarian when the new year begins. Besides working out and eating right, I want to work on another, internal aspect.

Your body will thank you for the way you treat it; that includes the way you talk about/to it. I know all girls can relate this situation: looking in the mirror stretching, pulling, sucking in certain parts of our bodies that we hate and wishing we weren’t born the way we were. It stinks that I know this situation all too well because I do it all the time.

I have always prided myself on being a size 3 in juniors jeans. I could even squeeze myself into a 0-1 if they were stretchy enough. But I went jean shopping recently, and I wind up having to go up two sizes. My initial thought was that I was devastated. I was no longer skinny. I was no longer a “small” size.

But how stupid is that? What’s wrong with not being skinny? I learned that I had been conditioning myself to think that size matters. Society has been setting the standards for what we will consider beautiful and pretty when it should be the other way around.

Smaller size = prettier girl = happier girl

By all means, I am not trying to bash the skinny girls. I just bashing the idea that we should all look like you guys. It’s just so illogical when girls come in all different shapes and sizes. Whatever size you are, you should not be ashamed. Let’s have good and equal representation of everyone.

So mentally, I want to start over and be more body positive about myself. I find it easier to compliment other girls and tell them, “You're beautiful just the way you are!” but can't even form my mouth to say the same statement to myself.

If you are reading this, I challenge you to only say positive things to yourself when it comes to your body. We all have flab and flaws, in which we must learn how to accept both. If you’re a healthy woman at a size 11, you don’t have to work out to squeeze yourself into a size 1.

The mind is a powerful thing. It will take your idea of reality and run with it. So let’s be smart about what thoughts we give our mind concerning our bodies.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
