I Love You, Mom

What do you give the mother that deserves the world?

I Love You, Mom

What do you give the mother that deserves the world when all you have is two dimes to rub together? The answer is simple, love.

Growing up, we seem to not appreciate our mothers as much as we should. After all, they gave us life, and for that alone, we should be forever grateful to them. We often forget all that they do for us. They provide us shelter, food, and clothes. Besides the basic needs, they provide us almost anything our heart desires.

Our mothers are our first teachers in life. After spending 9 months carrying us, they spend even more time caring for us and teaching us all we know. Not to steal your father's thunder, but let’s be honest, mom is the one who probably taught you your first words and to take your first steps. She has been there through every temper tantrum and every hair cutting incident. She has been there to catch you from every fall and rescue you from every bad dream you might wake up to.

Growing up, your mother was the one who you went to when your body was doing new things foreign to you. She is also the one who bought you your first bra because you were way too anxious to wait until you actually had boobs. She was there when you were learning to first shave your legs and nicked yourself and didn’t know what to you. She has been there to hold you as you lay weeping for hours from a broken heart and ensuring you that it’s not the end of the world, you will survive! She will be there to give your dress that extra fluff and that last hug until she gives you away to the love of your life on your wedding day. Your mother will be there for everything for the rest of her life.

So, what do you give the mother that deserves the world when all you have is two dimes to rub together? You give her those Sunday snuggles in bed watching The Million Dollar Listing because that’s her favorite show. You give her a surprising kiss on the lips when all she asks for is a kiss on the cheek because you know she would much rather have that. You give her a $3.99 bouquet of flowers just to see her face light up with joy. After a long day at work, you run up to her and give her a tight hug that will get her through the net tough day. You tell her you love her every single day even though she knows. If you cannot give your mother the world, give her everything you have and every last drop of love you have to give because, that’s the least you can do for her.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
