Life gets busier
the tide of demands rises higher
and the first cargo to go overboard
are those furthest from us.
These are the people we hold dear
when we can hold them dearly.
The waves finally calm
and we go back, searching
hoping it's not too late.
To our joy,
while some friendships -

- sink,
most float.
So when there's finally enough time
to take a deep breath
and we pick up that phone to say hello
sometimes there's tears
