Dear Grandpa,

I'll always be your little girl

113
Dear Grandpa,

Often as children, grandma and grandpa are our favorite relatives. As we get older, we tend to become "too busy" with friends, jobs, homework etc. We tell grandma and grandpa we'll be back again soon, but months may pass before your next visit. However, I've learned how important it is to take time out of my day or schedule, no matter how busy, to spend time with grandma and grandpa.

Dear Grandpa,

Most of the time our visits consist of long conversations about how college is going, popular topics on the news, what is going on in the family, or just making fun of Grandma's jabber jaws. I cherish these conversations and your company. It is not often I sit down and truly tell you how much you mean to me. This time, I just want to do just that.

Since the day I was born, I've been your "little Alexx". You've held me high on a pedestal and have always spoiled me. You and Grandma have gone as far as having my face put on shirts. If that doesn't make a granddaughter feel special, what will? If there was ever anything I wanted or needed, you made sure I was not disappointed.

You've never once let me down. When I've needed you the most, you've never failed me. When those I've loved have left, you remained. You've picked me up, dusted off my britches, and told me I was going to be okay. You have had my back through some of the toughest times and have been a solid rock for your little girl to lean on.You have shown me endless love, and I've watched you love unconditionally. No matter how wrong someone may be, your love holds strong. A real man like you, Grandpa, is rare.

Thanks to you, I have countless, life-long childhood memories. Many of my absolute favorite memories are because of you. From bike rides to the ice cream shop, to corn on the cob lunch dates in the summertime, to teaching me to drive, you've never failed to put a smile on my face. You've taught me to be ornery and fun-loving. You taught me to love old-timey, twangy, banjo-pickin' country music, and I'll never turn down an opportunity for us to watch our favorite movie (O Brother Where Art Thou).

There are absolutely no words to truly tell you the impact you've had on my life. I will never be able to completely thank you. You've been a teacher, a role model, and most of all, my best bud. No matter how old I am or how tall I grow, I'll always be your little long-legged cricket.

Thank you for being the best there could ever be.

Love,

Your guitar-pickin' and grinnin' little girl,

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

winter

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
