I Love You, Brother

"Who needs a superhero when you have a brother?"

I Love You, Brother
Lilly Gibson

I have wanted to write this one for a while now and at first, I was not sure why it was taking me so long to come up with inspiration for it, but now I know. My big brother is such a huge part of my life, it just takes while to figure out what quality of him to talk about.

My brother is 11 years older than me... yes, 11.

When I was little, we were best buddies. He would carry me around, I would hang out in his room, and I would even spend time with him and his friends. We were almost always together.

Now that I am 18 and my brother is almost 29, we are not as close anymore. But that does not change a thing. I still love my brother to death. He has always been there for me, even when it did not really seem like we liked each other.

I remember all the times that we spent together, some of which ended with, "Don't tell mom." He was always up to have fun.

I guess what I wanted to say was...

I love you, Brother.

I love that you let me hug you even though you hate hugs.

I love that we like a lot of the same movies, giving us something to talk about.

I love that you were basically my best friend when I was little, you made me who I am today.

I love that you are not embarrassed to hang out with your little sisters.

I love that you genuinely do care about us and how we are feeling.

I love the fact that you hate seeing your sisters sad and will try to make us feel better.

I love the times that you will Google corny jokes and sit around telling them for what seems like hours, even if you are the only one laughing at them.

I love all of the lessons you have taught me in life.

I love how passionate you are about the things you love.

I love all of the nicknames that you gave me.

I love all of the games we played together.

I love the fact that God gave me you as a big brother.

I know God knew exactly what He was doing when he gave you three younger sisters and when he gave us you. You have always been such an important part in my life even if I was not the best at showing it. You have always looked out for us girls.

So thank you for all you have done for me and my sisters. Thank you for being an overall great big brother. You have always been so honest with us and I am so thankful for that aspect of you.

I love telling people about my big brother and all the fun times we have together. I cannot imagine not having you in my life. Thanks for being you, brother.

"Do you know why big brothers are born first?"

"To protect the little ones that come after."

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
